Court records indicate a woman who, along with her three children, died of gunshot wounds at her home in North Dakota may have been struggling with financial problems. Police discovered Astra Volk, 35, and her children, 14-year-old Tyler Talmage, 10-year-old Aidan Talmage and 6-year-old Arianna Talmage at their home in Grand Forks after a school requested a welfare check Thursday morning
Three elementary school children and a parent were found dead in a home in northeastern North Dakota Thursday, school officials and police said. Administrators at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Grand Forks asked for the check on the home on the city’s south side. The responding officer saw what appeared to be a body inside the home and went in.
The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s office says a body was found Saturday morning. The body of a man was discovered around 8:30 a.m. in a ditch off of Highway 2, just west of the Walmart in Grand Forks.

Angel Miguel Rodriguez, 42, entered an Alford plea to one charge of transfer of body fluid that may contain the human immunodeficiency virus, a class A felony. In an Alford plea, a defendant maintains his innocence but acknowledges the prosecution has enough evidence for a conviction.

Police were called at 9:47 p.m. on Sunday with a report of a robbery at the KFC fast food restaurant in Grand Forks at 706 South Washington Street. Authorities say a man went into the restaurant, showed an employee a handgun, and demanded money. The employee handed over cash and then the man left on foot heading west. A UND investigation has begun to determine the security of student fee dollars after last week's arrest of the former student body treasurer. Chase Johnson was arrested by University Police and charged with Class B felony theft following accusations that he embezzled between $10,000 and $50,000 from his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. He was fraternity treasurer at the time of the alleged theft.
